This app has a great concept, and in theory it should work, But it doesn’t. First of all, the responsiveness of the app once you have it installed on a device is sub-par. Half the time it doesn’t actually unpause a family member or unpause the WiFi. While it offers a large variety of “control”, the interface is fidgety, counterintuitive, and in some instances, just doesn’t work. Next, Is the service worth paying for? If you use the circle wifi box, it limits your WiFi to 100mbs. If you pay for an internet plan or cell service that gives you anything more than 100mb, you are instantly paying for more speed than you are getting. It becomes at times that websites take 30 - 40 seconds to load before you get a no internet screen. You have little to no internet access when you install this, and if you use the internet even remotely often, it will be a nightmare trying to get anything done. This circle box is a cheap modem that was used in the early 2000s and it is NOT all modem. It has a backup battery in case a child tries to unplug it. I was surprised when I found this, considering that most I have used in the past are much larger than the circle. As far as mobile goes, it still has all the same problems of the WiFi attached version. It limits the speed of the data and it has the route every input source using data through a circle server. Again, unresponsive and slow. Solutions: If you would prefer not to have unbearably slow WiFi and data, then I would go with a system that is actually installed on the individual device. Also, avoid getting 3rd party software unless there isn’t some sort of solution put out by the manufacturer of your device. Apple devices: Apple screen time. It’s built in, you can set app limits, bedtimes, controls on who your child can receive calls and texts from, and all the good stuff circle offers without the negatives. Android devices/chrome books: since every parent who has a child in school has a school issued chrome book I would recommend Family Link, by google. All google devices will work with this and it is very similar to the last option, better WiFi and data speeds, as well as similar level of control. (Note, your school most likely already limits sites, apps, and content your child can see) Windows: As far as I know, there isn’t any official parental control software by Microsoft, but there are plenty of 3rd party options for a windows device. Plus, with android apps coming soon in windows 11, there is bound to be even more options for parental controls. In conclusion, circle basically renders any device you have useless. The concept is great, but the hardware isn’t there. I would recommend the options I listed, or any other option that doesn’t attach to you WiFi and data connection. Now, away from the logistical side of things, let’s talk about the emotional effects of using the circle program. After I started using circle for my kid’s devices, I thought it would be a great way to protect them from the threats of the internet access, while yes it technically works if you decide to spend a good portion of your day troubleshooting, I found that it had a poor impact on my oldest child. I used this for 2 years with my kids before running into issues with my oldest son (13). The bullying he faced from kids at school was constant, whether he had issues opening something his teacher asked him to read, or trying to play games with friends. He was lacking a sense of independence by being constantly controlled, and he felt like I couldn’t trust him. With a world constantly changing, I realize that the opportunities for bad on the internet are increasing, but so are the ones for good. Inevitably it boils down to the deduction you make. My 7yo daughter is someone who this app works perfect for. She doesn’t doesn't take too much notice when a website takes extra long to load, or if her iPad takes longer to update. She with time though, will grow up mature. This stage where children are getting older isn’t a time to lock them away the real world until they are 18, it’s time for them to learn how to manage themselves, so someone else doesn’t have to. This does not mean that I let my children make decisions unsupervised or use their devices for 7 hours, but they have their own free will. This way I can teach my children so they know now, so they don’t have to learn it later in life themselves. Ever sense I have used this strategy with my kids, our screen situation has improved dramatically, and My kids have been much more cooperative with exercising healthy usage and management. If you are a parent considering on using circle as a parental control service, there are better options for limiting device access and whatnot if parental controls are must have for your. I urge you however to give your kids a parent who teaches, Instead of an app that controls This isn’t calling anybody out who uses circle, I know that if you took the time to institute some safety measures you care about your children, but make sure they know that you love, care, and trust them, so they can make the right choices for themselves.

My parents used this on me as I used to be on my phone too late and now I have a great sleep schedule and I’m not tired all day. It works really well but sometimes I could still watch videos if I reloaded the page a few times but it usually works. It was very frustrating as the one being limited but you get used to it and now I can sleep better.

This app and service used to be great! I have lifetime subscription bc I believed in this product. Now I can’t adjust anything unless on WiFi, it’s constantly freezing or shutting down. It doesn’t unpause devices when icon says it’s unlocked. It’s really not the product I originally purchased.
