Love the new voice chat room feature. It's an easy way to practice a language in an impromptu way. Users are so friendly and willing to help you out! I have met so many incredible people through this application!! When somebody compliments me on my Spanish, I told him that I use this language learning app to take my comprehension to the next level. I also love learning slang words and phrases that locals use in their own country from Latin America. Highly, highly recommend.
The app related to a government entity
Absolutely tremendous app for practicing speaking and writing. No complaints whatsoever. However, I would love to see an update which includes ADAPTIVE TEXT or LARGER FONT SIZES for persons with low vision and other print disabilities. Unfortunately, the font is too small for me, so I have to use screen zoom to access it.
So far the app is great! I had it for a week now and I’ve texted 30+ people. I could have initiated more convos, but I have had really fun convos with a few! And I have a close friend on the app now too!! The app could make more free features tho… it’s quite expensive.
This app is terrible because of the strict and unfair policies. There is tons of spam or fake profiles on this app and they make fake reports. The staff of this app will simply ban you for even the slightest attempt at befriending someone. They strictly follow Chinese principles of forcing people to comply with unfair rules. It’s discriminatory and undemocratic.
hi hellotalk! :) let me just say first that i have been using this app for YEARS. even when i lose motivation and take breaks from language study, i ALWAYS come back to HelloTalk because it is such a useful tool. i highly recommend it to anyone wanting to take their language study to the next level while doing exactly what language is for: connecting with other people! many thanks to the HelloTalk dev team as well for their excellent work :) one aspect of the platform that i struggle with is getting traction with moments. hellotalk has a number of suggested tags, but as far as i can tell, no way to see which tags are trending at any given time. i also get more interaction on moments when i don’t tag them compared to when i do tag them 🤨 i think giving users an idea of which tags more people are talking in so they can see where the party’s at would really improve the social media experience through moments on hellotalk. in conclusion, great app, minor notes. HT team, hope you see this and thanks so much!
I’ve noticed HelloTalk censors some material, particularly has it relates to China. I posted a Self-Introduction which mentioned Taiwan and it was later deleted without informing me.
This is mainly a rant at how this app thinks. To start I purposely deleted my hellotalk account because I had no more use for it, do to being busy with school,/work/life, and the minute i go to make a new account it says I'm permanently banned. I proceed to further investigate as to why i have been banned, and it turns out that a written post, where I jokingly said I was looking for a wife or something along the lines, was the reason for being banned. The post reads, as to what the emailed me with, "Hola busco mujer sencilla, bonita, y amable para casarme con ella. Lo más pronto posible. Jajajaja. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Ahora que tengo tu atención. Busco a gente española para amistades y para practicar español. La mayoría de nuestros conversaciones pueden ser en inglés sin problemas. O español como sea." This is the only evidence they gave as to why I was banned for "Your previous registered accounts have been reported for looking for a relationship in Moments." If you don't understand Spanish I'll tell you what I said. "Hey I'm looking for a simple, pretty, and friendly woman, so that i can marry her. The sooner the better. Hahahaha. Now that I have your attention. I'm looking for Spanish people to build friendships and practice Spanish. The majority of our conversations can be in English without a problem. Or in Spanish, whichever is best." I know my review is starting to be a little long, but since their customer service doesn't let me appeal I wanted to voice my opinion. I also wanted to shine a light on the fact that while I was on the app i do not remember a time where i was blocked or something as to warrant concern from that post, nor did I receive a warning from Hellotalk. Nonetheless, the people that run this app I think pay more attention to "reports" apparently over context. I have had friends that have been banned as well because they have men that flirt with them and then when they ignore or tell the man to stop, he reports, not one particular man just some men on the app with alternative motives apart from language learning, the girl and then she ends up being reprimanded. I have about 2-3 friends that were harassed by people on the app and they deleted their accounts because of it, but the minute they go to make a new account guess what??? Hellotalk bans them for the same reason I was; for apparently "having moments where we were looking for a relationship," as the customer service puts it. Don't get me wrong the app is nice, apart from the fact the customer service is bad, there are individuals using the app for other motives, and having underaged users. If you ignore all that it is a decent app for connecting with individuals to learn languages. I would recommend Tandem every day if you have the same issue with hellotalk like i did. Thanks for reading my rant if you got this far.
So this “app” or waste of software decided to suspend my account because I put my flag as Mexico and they sadly think I’m not Mexican nor from Mexico. This app truly is a waste of download space and should be removed from the Apple Store. No one in the right mind should use this app for language practice either, when there are better apps such as Busuu.
Terms of Service only provided in Mandarin which I can’t read or understand. I replied to a post the team didn’t like, all I said is “me too” and they placed a permanent lifetime ban on my account without any warning or explanation before the ban was placed. I think any reasonable human would find that excessively harsh and cruel. A simple warning would have helped me understand and I would have apologized and happily complied. Why am I being treated like a criminal? I’m in a foreign company alone and this app is a huge help in my life. It’s as if there’s no human compassion in this company whatsoever. I feel like crying.
