  • Upgraded to plus wish I hadn’t

The speech recognition of this app is garbage. And before you say that I’m mispronouncing words in a foreign language I am having just as much trouble with English and I’m a native speaker. I will say a sentence and it will show on the screen but by the time I hit check it will have changed or disappeared.
  • Perfect for me

    By inthemorbs
I really love using this app. The practice features are my favorite because it does a great job of tracking what I’ve missed before. It also gives me extra repetition and different questions to help with memory.
** The recent update and Super Duolingo situation is confusing to me visually. It looks exactly the same aside from the icon being different. What was the point and why does it make it sound like a whole design redo?
  • Paid for offline use that unavailable

    By Gift busking
Paid for the pro / premium / whatever version, in order to get the offline functionality. Months after I paid, they dropped support for it. In my use case, this eliminated 80% of the functionality. Can’t use it on an airplane, or when out of cellular/wifi range.
As a learning tool, it is fairly mediocre. There is no writing support for learning characters. Learning alphabets is slow. For Japanese, an app called Benkyo fills in some of there defects.
A mode for listening to conversations would be good… especially if you could listen to the offline.
Persistent downloads may also help reduce the amount of data that you use, however it is not clear how they manage this.
The algorithm for retesting material may have improved. Mid 2021 I ran into a terrible phase where I couldn’t get out of a loop, but they seem to have made this easier by showing material badck to back until you understand it.
I hope they bring back the offline mode I paid for. Maybe study git to copy their model for determining if data is present on the user device…. Good luck
  • Why did you remove the conqueror achievement?

    By hdjehjhrf
That was the only motivating feature remaining for finishing a course. Who decided to just remove it all of a sudden?
  • I wish I wish with all my might

I love duo but I really want more options for Arabic and Greek it’s been hard when I see there’s so many lesson and engagement in some of the more popular languages like French Italian etc I hope they do add more
