Even though I didn’t think I had any hang-ups about eating and diet Noom has helped me to discover a few. Also, it’s helped me to see where I need to improve my eating habits overall. I am getting value from that. But the app itself is buggy. Two weeks in it reset my steps goal and erases data on the daily. No big deal per se. But it is nice to go back and review your progress which it seems to retain none of day over day. Also, you can only see daily progress not monthly progress. The Noon guides were super involved in the first two weeks, granted I’m not the most responsive but now 5 weeks in and crickets. Overall, the benefit for me is in the tracking of food and calories and seeing what kinds of foods I’m eating so I can make adjustments and for that it’s working. I am sure that I’ll continue with the app after 3-6 months as it’s a hefty cost for all the bugs and general lack of functionality. I can probably get something better working elsewhere.
I have been on Noom for about a month and actually haven’t lost anything yet but have learned so much about what and why and when I eat and am getting a knack for logging that I am sure I will start losing soon.

I am actually learning a lot and am finding it easy to stay in the zone I need to to release weight! I have a lot to lose but already released 2.8 pounds in the first week!
I am beyond disappointed with my Noom experience. I heard so many great things online (which I now suspect to be paid reviews) and wanted to try it immediately. I was a little surprised, after all the hype about it being an approach to weight loss “based on psychology”, to find that all Noom is is a calorie counter/tracker with some short 30 second motivational pre-recorded messages for you to listen to. And it is INSANELY expensive. Over 20 bucks per month so you can just track your calories and listen to some subliminal messaging garbage. I switched from doing intermittent fasting to doing Noom and I GAINED 15 freaking pounds in 3 weeks of doing it! Please… PLEASE… I beg anyone reading this who is considering Noom to just get My Fitness Pal or ANY other calorie tracker you can use for free. All Noom is, is a glorified calorie tracker that they poured millions of dollars of marketing into. That’s it. It’s nothing you haven’t seen before, it’s a gimmick and it doesn’t help with weight loss.
Calorie budget increased from 2000-3000. Noom published an article in 2019 saying that 3000 calories/day is a great way to rapidly gain weight. Customer service claims this is not a glitch and they are going off of NIH literature. Well, whoever on the team decided that must be looking at the “maintenance” calories and not “weight loss” because that is exactly what it shows when I use the NIH calculator myself. Noom is about to be providing a lot of refunds if they keep this up.
Somehow the Noom app and Apple iTunes do not talk to each other. Nobody will admit fault, but my subscription purchased through Apple would not link with Noom properly (to allow “Premium Features”) and when I canceled my subscription through Apple to buy it through the Noom app (as instructed by customer service), I discovered had to wait FOUR days before I could re-subscribe under the same email or else lose all my progress. A four-day break right at the beginning of your weight loss journey is a giant problem if you ask me. Also, I would like to point out that there are many apps that have this problem and have addressed it by having an ability to re-link to your Apple subscription from inside their app. Something Noom should consider doing. I have literally never had this problem in over 20 years of buying 3-party subscriptions through Apple iTunes. The one star review is for the technical support and technical experience I am having with the app, not the content of the app…so far I have loved the Noom content.
Not quite as fast as I would like, but I am learning better habits and am down five pounds in less than a month.
I am enjoying using Noom in ways I didn’t anticipate. I started by trying the free starter offer, because I figured it wouldn’t hurt and I have been both turned off to diets in general and needing to lose weight for quite a while. I like the psychological aspects of the program because they are thought-provoking and help me think about why I have been doing certain things. I like the little “games” which involve teaching and I like the quizzes. Everything is easily recorded include water consumption, even for me at 71! It’s fun to see the water glasses fill with blue water when you touch a glass. There is no strong-arming, nor guilting or rigidity like other diets I have been on, plus the program is very encouraging and full of useful information. I think I will keep at it!
I like the app l but I don’t understand why the developers thought it necessary to make logging food a 20 button click process. Take some cues from other food logging apps, the most repetitive part of this app (logging food) should be optimized to take the least amount of clicks possible.
