Each map can be downloaded. Then shred with friends. Ya got to love a real map and compass when off grid.
I’m a hunter in the northeast where the woodlands are small in comparison to out west. I rarely use trails and it is important to mark waypoints fairly close together. The features that make this application work for me are 1:24000 USGS maps and the waypoint icons that scale with map magnification. This avoids waypoint icon clutter and gives me the map expansion I need to pinpoint an exact location. I’m not the big back country guy like this app seems to be focused on, but in comparison I’m more like a bird dog running smaller parcels on land.
Been using the app for years, and it is flawless. phone reception or not - This app will take you places. With that being said, I upgraded to the iPhone 13 pro max today and this was literally the first app I downloaded. I logged in, and it appears as though my years worth of trails and tagged spots have disappeared. I’d really like to get those back if anyone can shed any light on it for me! Thanks for reading.
Set up the app, had location shared, downloaded maps / routes and set off into mountain. Once out of cell service discovered the app wasn’t functioning as advertised, couldn’t pull my location at all. Completely worthless to have maps/routes downloaded as we couldn’t see where we were on there or if we were even on the route we had planned/downloaded. Contacted customer support and provided a diagnostics report, which confirmed that location was shared with the app. Had to eat the cost of the app subscription but definitely wouldn’t recommend trusting this for your off-grid adventures.
Creating routes that automatically snap to existing trails is a useful feature, but very difficult to use in this app. The route always gets stuck at trail junctions and you have to switch route drawing modes to manually overcome the issue with snap to trails. The competitor app, Gaia GPS, does not have this issue.
Almost been lost on Maroon bells - Snowmass Village trail. Luckily had AllTrails app to find a way home.
Great app that gives you exactly what you need for a backpacking trip. Cannot believe all the different map layers available. Highly recommend for any outdoor enthusiast.
Paying for pro version you should have the highest quality and resolution maps available. I shouldn’t have to switch to google earth to get a quality zoomed in image.
I’ve been using this app for five years and developed trail maps for friends and family with it. It continuously impresses me and everybody I share it! While the developer always recommends printing out paper maps (with the app) when you go into the wilderness, this app will not fail you. Every year there are new features that make your planning easier and you’re hiking more enjoyable. I am especially enjoying marking waypoints where I find wild mushrooms and wild flowers so I can easily find them each season. I’ve also imported GPX property lines and others trails into topo maps plus. The iPad version is fantastic for planning routes and reviewing a trip with others, too. Most of my friends choose to pay for the subscription (one time ) and download the maps for the place we go each year. Others use the free version to keep on the trails I’ve mapped and helped import into the free version. I and a few of my friends and family subscribe to the pro version because of all the help we’ve received from the developer in mapping our area and the gratitude we feel for such an amazing tool. I have used the app hiking in more than 9 US states. It frequently helps me find local places to hike in new areas. Download it and the more you use it, the more you will see what it has to help you enjoy in the wilderness or your local park.
I have been using Topo Maps+ for mountain day hiking. Overall excellent maps and features but I find the labels on the maps very hard to read. Would appreciate if we had the option for the smallest labels to be literally triple the size they are now. When I magnify the maps by zooming in the text resizes to far-too-small-to-read. Otherwise I have only praise for the design and usability. Thanks.
