  • Not appropriate for children!

I purchased babel for my child to learn Spanish but as they progressed through the program it started teaching them inappropriate non-child friendly words and concepts.

This app really needs a child filter, otherwise you need to pay careful attention to what words and concepts it introduces them to.

As an example, does a young child really need to be introduced to the concept of divorce in another language?

There’s other examples of adult words and concepts sprinkled throughout babel, regrettably I didn’t discover them until the little one started asking about these new words.

I am moving to Mexico and I am trying to learn Spanish before I depart. I couldn’t study for 3 days…it takes a lot to become a legal resident in Mexico. I’m now lost as to what I’m supposed to do next, none of the lessons they have scheduled are applicable to my current level of knowledge of Spanish.

If I wanted something so unreasonable and demanding, I’d get married. Go with duel lingos

Lessons nicely presented. However, the many problems with passwords and app were very disappointing. I am leaving the app open so I don’t have to continue changing unrecognized passwords.
  • The wrong way to learn a language

This app is basically your high school text book in app format. Instead of learning a language naturally through use and natural conversation, the Babbel program focuses on grammar and rogue memorization. The absolute worst way to learn a language.

I paid for a lifetime subscription, but barely use the app in favor of free library resources. Babbel is just so tedious conjugating verbs in the very first lesson (I’m learning Italian .. maybe other languages are different?). Plus there is no way to just listen to the lesson for when you are driving or on the go.

There is a reason your trial lesson is so short - and no refunds. You have been warned.

Long time user. Babbel is fantastic, the program is great, the content is great.

HOWEVER, the iPad app should really have a portrait mode option. It feels wrong that it doesn’t. Maybe I’m missing something, but I don’t think so. I forget every time. I launch the app while holding my device upright and am greeted by a sideways screen. Very annoying. Likewise, as others have mentioned, a dark mode would be a real asset for learning without strain. Also, the games are a fun addition but there need to be more of them. Otherwise they become boring quickly due to their simplicity.

Sorry to be negative. I’m nit picking. Babbel, in my opinion, is the most thorough digital program out there. Just needs a couple of soft touches to spoil us who are in it for the long haul.
  • I love this app

I’ve used another program to try to learn Spanish. Babble is so much better! I love that they teach you the “why” of the language and letter sounds. Instead of only simple sentences.
  • Free Lessons Few and Difficult to Find

I’m having trouble finding more than 3 actual free lessons, so not worth it. It always sends me to the purchase page each time I click on a lesson. I sure got a LOT of spam phone calls after I signed up. Could be coincidence, but I doubt it.

So I got babbel and I thought it would be very great since I'm learning French/Japanese, and I looked and there wasn't any Japanese, I just think you should add more languages because some people might wanna learn Japanese, or anything else like that, the app is good overall, but I still think there should be more languages.

    Thank you! <33
  • Ok but…

I wish there was a tutorial, and a way to test out. I have an intermediate knowledge of the language I am studying, but when it comes to typing, I don’t have the correct keyboard. Not sure if this was something I was supposed to download separately, somewhere in the app, or what. Also, I don’t really want or need to go through all the lessons from the beginning. I had signed up for a subscription, but will probably cancel, because I’m not that impressed
